The NexGen Show Episode 21: In-House Culture Shock?!

Unlike her peers, Jade Lim isn’t in a rush to return to the agency grind.

In Episode 21 of The NexGen Show, the young graphic designer offers a behind-the-scenes look at her evolution from agency deadlines to the slower, more intentional pace of in-house creative work.

“The fast nature of agencies means you usually have two weeks to come up with key visuals,” she shares. “To see that process lengthen to three months or more was eye opening for me.”

She also references Austin Howe’s best-selling book Designers Don’t Read, which critiques the rigid silos of agency work where ideas tend to be bound by job titles.

“We tend to forget that marketing is a collaborative effort. We think that you need to be a writer or designer to have creative ideas,” she explains. “But a great idea can come from anywhere.”

Hosted by Malaysian advertising veteran Prof. Harmandar Singh, The NexGen Show is a weekly non-profit podcast series where young talents talk about their future, fears, and fresh perspectives in a conversational format.

Listen to these insights and more every Sunday, 7PM on SpotifyApple Podcasts, and YouTube.
