The NexGen Show Episode 52: PR and Presence

by: Harvin Kaur

In this episode of The NexGen Show, PR professional Wisha Najmi shares her journey into the world of public relations, from discovering her passion during her diploma studies to building a career across industries like automotive, finance, and business communications.

Originally planning to pursue journalism, Wisha realised PR was the right path after being exposed to it in university. Since then, she has grown through agency life, handling major campaigns and learning the realities of the industry firsthand.

One of the strongest moments in the conversation was her honest take on leadership and mentorship in the workplace.

“As someone who’s new in the industry, you want to look up to someone who is capable, well-read, and knows the client inside out,” she shares. “You can’t work with someone who can’t teach you.”

Wisha explains how working with unprepared leaders can affect confidence and motivation, especially for young professionals who are still learning the ropes.

At the same time, she credits much of her own growth to managers who guided and supported her early in her career.

“They did throw me into the ocean,” she says jokingly, “but they gave me a life jacket.”

In a rapidly evolving industry shaped by AI and constant change, Wisha believes human guidance, experience, and leadership remain irreplaceable.

Her journey is a reminder that success in PR is not only about making brands visible, but, it’s also about building people, creating trust, and becoming the kind of leader others can confidently learn from.
