After more than two decades as part of a global network, M+C Saatchi Malaysia has stepped into a new chapter, rebranding as M+C Saatchi KARSA following its transition to full local ownership.
The move, led by founding partner and CEO Sharifah Menyalara Hussein, better known as Lara Hussein, marks a decisive shift from network outpost to independent, founder-led agency rooted in Malaysia.
While the agency retains ties to the global M+C Saatchi system through a licensed model, its strategic direction is now firmly local. The new name, KARSA, draws from Sanskrit, meaning “creative will” or “conscious intent”.
It is a deliberate signal of the agency’s positioning in a market increasingly crowded by automation and algorithmic thinking.
For Lara Hussein, the rebrand is not cosmetic. It is about identity and intent, reflecting both the agency’s Malaysian grounding and its belief in purposeful creativity.
With an 80-strong local workforce, the agency is doubling down on homegrown talent and cultural insight, while committing to keep intellectual capital within the country.
The shift also unlocks greater operational freedom, allowing the agency to shape its own products, services, and go-to-market approach without the constraints of a traditional network structure.
Central to this next phase is a dual-engine model. Alongside its core creative offering, M+C Saatchi KARSA is building a consultancy arm designed to work directly with C-suite leaders on innovation, growth strategy and business transformation.
It is a move that positions the agency upstream, engaging clients before the brief even takes shape. The rebrand also reinforces a return to fundamentals, anchored in Maurice Saatchi’s enduring philosophy of “the brutal simplicity of thought”.
In a landscape often cluttered by complexity, the agency is betting that clear intent and sharp thinking remain the most effective tools for building brands and driving growth.
More than a name change, KARSA represents a recalibration. One that reflects a growing confidence among Malaysian agencies to define their own path, on their own terms.
