Maybank’s Raya Film “Berkat Mak” Shines a Light on Family Values

Maybank has launched its 2026 Hari Raya film, Berkat Mak”, a heartfelt story that celebrates the quiet yet powerful ways mothers express love for their children.

Rather than centring solely on festive traditions, the film explores a deeply familiar truth across many households: love is not always spoken; sometimes, it is simply shown. In many ways, this reflects the values Maybank aims to embody — being a steady pillar of support for the communities it serves, present in enabling progress and uplifting lives.

At the heart of the story is Mak, a single mother whose affection is expressed through the meals she tirelessly prepares for her children over the years. As the narrative unfolds across different moments in her children’s lives, her cooking becomes the silent language through which she conveys care, protection and devotion.

The film moves between present-day Hari Raya and flashbacks of defining moments in the family’s journey. One child leaves home to pursue work in the city, another begins a new chapter after marriage, while the youngest prepares to study eventually departing on Hari Raya itself. In each moment of parting, Mak places a yellow food container as a simple takeaway gift filled with love.

With time, they remember that every container of homemade food she packed for them, and every late night spent in the kitchen, was her quiet way of sending her love with them wherever life might take them.

Anchored by Mak’s reflective voiceover, the film reveals the thoughts she never said out loud. She confesses she was never a person of grand words, but of quiet, unconditional love — the kind that quietly ensuring her children were safe, nourished and supported through every stage of their lives.

In the film’s closing moments, the children reflect on the many small gestures their mother had shown them through the years, recognising them as quiet acts of care that had always been there. The story ends with a message that resonates deeply across generations:

“Sejauh mana diri melangkah, berkat doa pasti mengiringi.”
(“Wherever life takes you, prayers and blessings will always be with you.”)

The campaign reflects Maybank’s Humanising Financial Services philosophy, highlighting the people and relationships that support us throughout life’s journey.

Berkat Mak’ reminds us that the most meaningful forms of support are often the quietest ones, the everyday gestures of love and sacrifice that shape our lives long after the moment has passed. In many ways, this reflects the role we aspire to play at Maybank: to be a steady presence that supports people and communities through every stage of their journey, in line with our purpose of Humanising Financial Services. Through this film, we hope audiences see a part of their own family story and are reminded to cherish the quiet blessings and sacrifices that shape who we are” said Shazlina Suffian, EVP and head of group brand and marketing at Maybank.

The film was directed by Maurice Noone and Jeany Amir of Directors Think Tank, who sought to capture the understated emotional truths found in many families.

“To us, growing up is never easy — moments of moving forward while quietly leaving parts of home behind. Jeany Amir and I wanted to capture that unspoken love many Malaysian mothers show through food, and how those small gestures carry a piece of family with us wherever we go, “said Maurice Noone, director of the film.

With its reflective storytelling and emotional resonance, Maybank’s latest Raya film continues the brand’s tradition of festive narratives that connect deeply with audiences.

As families across the country gather to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri, “Berkat Mak” serves as a reminder that no matter how far life’s journey takes us, the blessings and sacrifices of those who raised us continue to guide the way.
