Datuk Idham Nawawi Bids Farewell to CelcomDigi After Three Decades

by: @dminMM

CelcomDigi Berhad has announced that its Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Idham Nawawi, will be stepping down from his role at the end of this month, marking the close of a distinguished 30-year career in the industry. His departure comes after steering the company through its crucial early years post-merger, citing personal reasons for the decision.

Datuk Idham officially ends his tenure on 31 August 2025, with Deputy CEO Albern Murty stepping up as Acting CEO from 1 September 2025. To ensure a seamless handover, Datuk Idham will remain on board as Advisor to the Board until the end of November, lending his support to Albern and the leadership team.

Having first joined Celcom Axiata Berhad in 2018, Datuk Idham played a pivotal role in driving transformation, sharpening business performance, and embedding new ways of working. Most notably, he was a key architect in the merger of Celcom and Digi, which culminated in the creation of CelcomDigi Berhad in November 2022 — a milestone that established the largest telco in Malaysia.

Reflecting on his journey, Datuk Idham said, “It has been an honour to lead CelcomDigi as the founding CEO, particularly through the historic merger that marked a new era for the industry. With the company now on solid ground, I am confident CelcomDigi will continue to lead the market into the future.”

Meanwhile, Albern Murty, who brings more than two decades of telco experience and previously served as CEO of Digi.Com Berhad for seven years, will take the reins in the interim. The Board has confirmed that a formal search is underway for a permanent CEO, with both internal and external candidates under consideration to chart CelcomDigi’s next phase of growth.
