TM Opens Social Media Agency Tender for Group Brands

by: The Malketeer

Malaysia’s telecommunications giant Telekom Malaysia (TM) is preparing to refresh its social media agency partnerships, issuing a registration-of-intent notice that signals an upcoming open tender for social media services across its key business units.

The appointment will cover TM Technology Services, the group’s principal operating entity, which oversees flagship brands including Unifi and TM One.

The move suggests a strategic review of the group’s social engagement approach at a time when telco competition is increasingly shaped by digital customer experience, real-time engagement, and platform-led brand storytelling.

Registration of Intent Now Open

Agencies interested in participating are required to submit a registration of intent via email using the subject line:

“Open Tender for The Appointment of Agencies for Social Media Partners: Registration of Intent.”

Submissions should be sent to TM’s authorised representatives:

  • Amira Bahiah binti Mohamad – amirabahiah@tm.com.my
  • Iffa binti Sharuddin – iffa.sharuddin@tm.com.my
  • Mohd Ismail bin Hashim – mismailh@tm.com.my

While no formal deadline has been announced, agencies are encouraged to register early. TM noted that the issuance of formal event invitations will be at the company’s discretion, and only agencies receiving invitations will be granted access to the tender event through the Ariba procurement portal.

Supplier Registration Requirement

As part of the eligibility process, participating agencies must be registered onTM’s Ariba supplier network and provide their Ariba Network IDs as supporting information during the registration stage.

The tender notice also clarifies that only one submission is permitted percorporate group or network, in accordance with the Companies Act 2016, reinforcing TM’s intent to ensure a structured and competitive selection process.

Strategic Signal for the Agency Market

The forthcoming tender is expected to draw strong interest across Malaysia’s digital and integrated agency landscape, given the scale of TM’s consumer and enterprise portfolios.

Social media responsibilities are likely to include always-on content, digital campaigns, community management, and social listening across multiple business lines, particularly for Unifi’s consumer broadband ecosystem and TM One’s enterprise solutions portfolio.

Industry observers note that telcos are increasingly treating social media as a core customer-experience channel, rather than a campaign-led function, making the TM review a significant opportunity for agencies seeking long-term, multi-brand digital mandates.

Further details on the tender process are available through TM’s official tender notices site, with formal invitations expected to follow after the registration-of-intent phase concludes.
