CelcomDigi has officially appointed Albern Murty as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), a move that signals a strategic leadership transition at Malaysia’s largest converged telecommunications company.
The announcement, made on Tuesday, places Murty at the helm of the organisation with immediate effect, following his tenure as Deputy CEO and more recently as Acting CEO.
At 53 years old, Murty brings more than two decades of experience in the telecommunications industry to his new role. His career spans a broad spectrum of commercial and operational leadership positions, including seven years as CEO of Digi.Com Bhd, as well as key roles in product strategy and business development.
Prior to his appointment as CEO, he served in leadership capacities such as Chief Operating Officer and Chief Marketing Officer within the Digi organisation and held senior roles across the Asian region with Telenor.
Murty’s elevation reflects CelcomDigi’s focus on continuity and strategic momentum following the Celcom–Digi merger in November 2022, which created one of Malaysia’s most significant telecoms entities.
His deep industry experience and understanding of both customer and enterprise needs position him to drive CelcomDigi’s next phase of growth as competition intensifies and digital adoption accelerates across sectors.
The company’s Board Chairman, Tengku Datuk Seri Azmil Zahruddin Raja Abdul Aziz, said the decision followed an extensive evaluation of internal and external candidates, underscoring confidence in Murty’s ability to lead the company forward.
According to the chairman, the board anticipates that Murty’s leadership will strengthen corporate governance, enhance the company’s market relevance, and help build an organisation recognised as one of Malaysia’s best workplaces.
Industry observers note that under his leadership, CelcomDigi is likely to continue prioritising customer-centric innovation and network excellence, positioning itself to capitalise on evolving digital demands from consumers and enterprise clients alike.
