How One Restaurant Owner’s Honesty Saved a Customer from an Expensive Mistake

It was a mistake that could have easily gone unnoticed, but the vigilant owner of BOTAK Nasi Lemak wasn’t about to let it slip through the cracks.

A simple meal that should have cost RM26.60 ended up draining RM2,660 from a customer’s wallet, thanks to an unfortunate QR code payment mishap.

The restaurant owner, however, turned to social media to right the wrong.

The Social Media SOS

In a bid to track down the customer, the restaurant posted a plea on Facebook, including a screenshot of the transaction, hoping the post would reach the right person.

The message read, “Is this you? You have mistakenly paid RM2,660 via QR code for a bill of RM26.60. Please help us find this customer so we can return the excess money to them! We (Botak Nasi Lemak), not Botak Omakase.”

The post quickly gained traction, with netizens sharing it widely to ensure it reached the intended person.

The public’s response was overwhelmingly positive, applauding the restaurant’s honesty and integrity in handling the situation.

Integrity in Action

In an age where stories of scams and dishonesty abound, the BOTAK Nasi Lemak incident stands out as a refreshing example of integrity.

Many online commenters praised the restaurant for its prompt action, noting that the owner could have easily pocketed the extra cash without anyone the wiser.

Instead, the restaurant’s proactive approach to return the money highlights a rare commitment to doing the right thing, reinforcing the brand’s reputation in a way that no marketing campaign could achieve.

A Happy Ending

The story has a happy ending: the restaurant was able to successfully return the overpaid amount to the customer, ensuring that the unintended four-figure ‘tip’ didn’t go to waste.

The episode serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance when making digital payments and the value of businesses that prioritise ethical practices.

BOTAK Nasi Lemak may be famous for its food, but now it’s also recognised for its integrity—a quality that no amount of money can buy.

I am betting on 2660 during the 4D draw this weekend!
