MCMC appoints Gerard Lim chief officer, digital

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has appointed Gerard Lim Kim Meng as Chief Officer, Digital Industry Development & Commercialisation effective 7th Jan 2019.

Lim will be responsible for strategic planning and development of the digital industry and economy and laying out new commercial plans. He will lead strategic collaboration, communication and engagement with industry and related institutions.

Lim was formerly a CEO of Atilze Digital Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Yen Global Bhd that specializes in Internet of Things (IoT) solutions.

MCMC chairman Al-Ishsal Ishak said Lim would inject new energy into the Telecommunications, Media and Technology (TMT) industry with his foresight and experience.

“In addition, his network comprises the needed contacts in telecoms, e-commerce and media sectors.”

Lim has more than 25 years of experience in the TMT industry having served in various companies including Webe Digital (a subsidiary of Telekom Malaysia), Axiata, Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), and other private corporations and startups.

Lim has an executive MBA from Open University Malaysia (OUM) and a certificate in Big Data Business Analystics from Harvard Business School.

Going forward MCMC also plans to work closely with Bernama News Channel (BNC), a unit under the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama), to enhance its communication activities.

Al-Ishsal aid the long-term collaboration was needed in view of the diversification of its duties and responsibilities under the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (KKMM) that should be disseminated to industry and all levels of society.

“Bernama is a trusted agency and has resources across the country as well as infrastructure to help MCMC disseminate news, stories or interviews nationwide.
