Hong Leong Bank Berhad (HLB) is lending its support to empower social enterprises to be sustainable as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme under HLB Jump Start, with the launch of the Demi Kita campaign in conjunction with Malaysia Day.
The idea behind the campaign was to highlight the importance of social enterprises and their need to be sustainable. To kick start this campaign, HLB’s first collaboration is with SURI, a denim up cycling social enterprise that turns unwanted denim into fashionable handbags, backpacks, totes and household items.
SURI was set up by a single mother; Sally Ahmad to provide financial opportunity and living skills for single and under-privileged mothers in her hometown in Klang and to protect the environment through up cycling.
To further strengthen this collaboration, HLB Jump Start is working with its partner brand agency Naga DDB Tribal and Tarik Jeans, a local designer group to help SURI look into its marketing, branding and product designs respectively.
“Social enterprises like SURI impact their communities while sustaining themselves with their own revenue. It’s an amazing honour to add our efforts to Hong Leong Bank and SURI’s work and impact even more people.” said Nik Radzi, Deputy Executive Creative Director at Naga DDB Tribal.
