Astro’s new user interface, the Ultra Box which comes with 4K UHD, Cloud Recording and Fresh Interface
Astro launched its long awaited Astro Ultra Box yesterday, a new user interface which includes 4K UHD, Cloud Recording and a new user interface designed to provide Malaysians with a seamless experience across all devices and content recommendations based on their viewing history.
The Ultra Box is designed as a slim and sleek set top box and comes with a remote control. Some of the other features included in the Ultra Box are play from start functions, the ability to record programmes concurrently and for sports fans, access to enjoy the UEFA Euro 2020, the Premier League, Formula 1 and La Liga.
“Today is a new milestone – the Ultra Box takes entertainment to a new level,” said Henry Tan, Chief Executive Officer of Astro Group. “Over half a million homes have 4K TV of which 70% are Astro customers and the launch of the Ultra Box is timely to meet the growing demand for 4K UHD viewing,” he added.
Using a hybrid system of satellite and internet technologies, the Ultra Box delivers the best 4K UHD quality. By connecting it to the internet, interactivity is enabled, giving users the ability to stream content anytime on demand. To encourage customers to use the Ultra Box, Astro is also offering attractive entertainment and broadband bundles. Customers with monthly subscription of RM100 and above can get an upgrade for free. To enjoy the 4K UHD viewing, customers need a compatible 4K TV.

After 20 years of evolving technology, shifting market trends, and adapting to changing consumer behaviour, the media landscape has nearly reached saturation.
We’ve optimised to the fullest, providing advertisers with abundant choices across technology, platforms, data-driven marketing, CTV, OTT, DOOH, influencer marketing, retail, etc.
Media specialists have diversified, but with more options comes the challenge of maintaining income growth. The industry is expanding, but revenue isn’t keeping pace.
Now, we’re at a TURNING POINT: time to explore and harness new sustainable revenue streams. While GroupM forecasts a 7.8% global ad revenue growth in 2024, challenges like antitrust regulation, AI and copyright issues, and platform bans persist.
Collaboration is key: partnerships that thrive on synergy, shared values, and aligned goals are becoming increasingly essential.
Hence, the Malaysian Media Conference, in its 20th year, has assembled the partners and players under one roof on October 25 for a day of learning, sharing, and exploring.
