Astro Revenue Up 12%

(Marketingmagazine.com.my) - Amidst gloom talk in the industry, Astro has announced its financial results for the first six months of the financial year ending 31 January 2015. Revenue grew 12% to RM2.6bn, EBITDA rose 15% to RM903mn and PAT increased by 25% to RM266mn.

Tun Zaki Azmi, Chairman of Astro said, “The Board of Directors is pleased to declare a second interim dividend of 2.25 sen per share, bringing the total dividend for the first six months of the current financial year to 4.5 sen per share, 12.5% higher compared to 4.0 sen per share in the same period last year.”

Dato’ Rohana Rozhan, Chief Executive Officer of Astro added, “We continue to increase ARPU, and drive advertising share. Total customer base has grown by 491k y-o-y to 4.2million, an increase of 127k for Astro and 364k for NJOI. The growth in customer base is across all demographics and we are particularly pleased with the growth in our Chinese base, driven by Astro packages like Chuen Min Pack and Dynasty Pack, as well as higher take up of NJOI."

Astro’s penetration of the Malaysian TV households has increased from 54% to 60%. Astro Radio has retained its position as the number one radio station in all 4 languages. The growing share of TV viewership (+3% y-o-y to 47%) and radio listenership (+2% y-o-y to 12.6million) has resulted in higher advertising revenues, up by 7% to RM290million.

Dato’ Rohana Rozhan concluded, “This has been a phenomenal quarter with unprecedented 2014 FIFA WORLD CUP BRAZIL coverage with a record TV viewership of 8.2millionn and 1.9millionn viewers on Astro On The Go and the Astro Go 2014 FIFA World Cup App.  The additional capacity from the launch of MEASAT-3b satellite will allow Astro to offer its customers more value-added products and services, particularly new HD channels. A new studio deal with NBC Universal was completed and together with existing partnerships with Walt Disney, Sony Pictures and Lionsgate will provide our viewers with more Pay Per View and VOD choices. Our recent collaboration with Pinewood Iskandar Malaysia Studios, where we have contracted to be the exclusive TV production services provider, will assist in this effort as well as position Malaysia as the region’s content hub.
