Which Websites Do Malaysians Frequent Online?

25 November 2014

(Marketingmagazine.com.my) - Malaysians are screen-obsessed; smartphone penetration currently stands at 51% as reported by Google – 1 in every 2 adults are smartphone users.

According to On Device research, mobile penetration in Malaysia is higher than Indonesia, the United States and the world’s average.

The Malaysian Digital Association (MDA) and comScore, Inc. (NASDAQ: SCOR) recently released their monthly rankings of web activity at the top online entities in Malaysia for September 2014 based on data from the comScore Media Metrix® and comScore Mobile Metrix® services.

“With rapidly increasing digital media activity on smartphones and tablets in Malaysia, advertisers and advertising agencies need to know how consumers are engaging with content across mobile devices, sites and apps, while publishers want to quantify and identify new opportunities to monetise their digital audience”, said Serm Teck Choon, Head of Measurement and Audit at MDA.

Introducing Mobile Metrix services allows for reporting of mobile browser and app audiences on smartphones and tablets and provides trusted third-party measurement and insights for the development of the digital industry and strategies in Malaysia.

Malaysia was the first market to introduce Mobile Matrix in the region, and is also available in Australia, China, India and Singapore; with Hong Kong and Taiwan to be added in later this year.

In September last month, Media Prima Group ranked No.1; having received close to 2 million unique visitors accessing from smartphones - 87% of those are from Android smartphones. Coming in second is Astro Group followed by Yahoo sites. See the full list below:

*Entity has assigned traffic to certain pages in the domain to other entities.

As part of comScore’s global rollout, Mobile Metrix in Malaysia leverages comScore’s census-based methodology that enables in-market mobile measurement without the need for a traditional mobile panel. The output delivers person-centric measurement for tagged entities.

Publishers looking to understand and monetise their mobile audiences can improve their measurement by ensuring complete implementation of tagging for all pages and apps. Only tagged entities can be featured in the comScore rankings due to this census-only approach.
