(Marketingmagazine.com.my) – According to the Malaysia National ICT Association (PIKOM) , the number of IT graduates produced each year, which numbers about 30,000, is not enough to cater to the growth of the industry. The Association also believes that the current workforce requires upgrading and upscaling.

Cloudera, a global provider of data management and analytics platform built on Apache Hadoop, will be launching its BASE (Big Analytics Skills Enablement) initiative in Malaysia. BASE pulls together partners across the public and private sectors and will be step towards ensuring that we have a steady supply of skilled data professionals moving forward.

The BASE initiative is designed to cultivate more data professionals and empower IT workers with more Big Data analytics skillsets, as well as to create an ecosystem of public and private sector organizations to drive towards the better use of data and technology in the country.

Currently, businesses like Intel, Dell and Fusionex have already stepped forward to join the BASE initiative, committing to play a role in this collaborative ecosystem. Academic institutions like Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) have also joined to provide training in data skills. Cloudera has also roped in Ambition Asia to match data professionals who have completed their training to the right job vacancies.

Doug Cutting, Chief Architect at Cloudera and Founder of Hadoop will be in Kuala Lumpur, sharing his vision for the BASE initiative and why it is important for Cloudera to play a catalyst role in cultivating a holistic ecosystem involving governments, institutes and businesses.

Yasmin MahmoodDato’ Yasmin Mahmood, CEO Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) will also be sharing her thoughts on the initiative with a keynote address.
