The Kyoorius Designyatra held last Friday, as part of the Kancils 30th Anniversary Festival, drew more than 600 participants; professionals and students from the creative fraternity exchanging ideas and insights on the future of design and graphic innovations.

4As Malaysia and Kyoorius Exchange organised the presentation of Kyoorius Designyatra 2008 and it wowed the captive audience.

Neville Brody of Research Studios commented that it was a fantastic experience to be in Kuala Lumpur. In relation to the presentations by the speakers, he said, “We could do with more workshops and maybe a little more time for our presentations. We are glad, however, that the turnout was great and we hope in the future to get more questions from the floor.”

Vince Frost of Frost Design, who was instrumental in the rebranding of the Sydney Opera House, did the identity design for Channel V and the ad campaign for Australia's Northern Territory, said, “It is important to always be engaged with each other and to be constantly in collaboration with everyone. Opportunities are there for the taking, if only you can see it.”

Wally Olins, one of the world's leading practitioners in corporate identity and branding was also a speaker and took the crowd on a mind-boggling journey with his insights into another cosmos of ideas. He said, “A brand is not just limited to its logo. A logo is a symbol of a brand. Companies must do much more than just rely on a symbol to move forward or attain the desired results in today's environment.”

When asked if he would work with companies here in Malaysia, Wally said that the possibility always exists. However, there are no plans at this moment for Saffron Brand Consultants to set up shop in Malaysia.

Local design icon William Harald-Wong, the founder and chairman of The Design Alliance, said, “Designers must always have an open mind towards everything. We must learn frrom everyone. We must also know what we have discarded from our past, what we can expect from our future and embrace what we can.”
